Meets GDC, Resuscitation Council UK and CQC Expectations
The General Dental Council's Scope of Practice (2013) says every registrant must be trained and competent in managing medical emergencies, including resuscitation. Every dental professional needs at least 10 hours of medical emergencies CPD in each 5 year cycle, and the GDC and Resuscitation Council UK strongly recommend updating at least once a year. That's also in line with the Core Skills Training Framework (CSTF), which the CQC looks for to show your staff have the right skills, knowledge and competence to keep patients safe.
What this course covers
The aim of this course is to support dental practitioners in meeting current General Dental Council (GDC) Continuing Professional Development requirements in developing confidence and competency to respond effectively during a medical emergency or cardiac arrest in accordance with Resuscitation Council (UK) 2025 guidelines and the NHS Core Skills Training Framework (CSTF) Level 2 Resuscitation of Adult and Paediatric Cardiac Arrest.
Medical emergencies can happen without warning in the dental surgery. Dental teams need to be ready to respond to things like collapse, chest pain, asthma, anaphylaxis, hypoglycaemia or even cardiac arrest. When a team spots the problem quickly and gives evidence-based treatment, it can make a real difference. Regular training helps everyone understand their role and respond with confidence.
The course supports dental practices in meeting current GDC, Resuscitation Council UK and CQC expectations, and helps every member of the team build the confidence to act when it matters.
Regulatory Requirements for Dental Practitioners
The General Dental Council (GDC) states in its Scope of Practice (2013) that all registrants must be trained and competent in managing medical emergencies, including performing resuscitation. To stay compliant:
- Every dental professional must complete at least 10 hours of medical emergencies CPD in each 5 year cycle.
- Annual updates are strongly recommended by the GDC and Resuscitation Council UK, in line with the Core Skills Training Framework (CSTF). The CQC will want to see this to show your staff are trained with the right skills, knowledge and competence to keep patients safe.
Our course meets all professional and service regulatory requirements, so you can show assurance and compliance.
