Working with the public takes a toll that is easy to underestimate. It involves managing other people's emotions, maintaining a professional face regardless of how you feel, and absorbing the frustration, impatience, and sometimes outright rudeness that comes with public-facing work.

Over time, this emotional labour adds up. It contributes to stress, anxiety, burnout, and a feeling of being drained that does not go away after a day off. And because customer-facing roles are often seen as straightforward or easy, the mental health challenges they create are frequently overlooked.

Understanding Mental Health in the Workplace (1 Day)

This is the awareness course for the whole team. It is a Qualsafe Awards accredited Level 2 qualification that covers what mental health is, how common conditions like anxiety, depression, and stress affect people at work, how to recognise the signs that someone is struggling, and how to have a supportive conversation.

For customer-facing teams, the course also addresses the specific pressures of public-facing work: managing emotional labour, recovering from difficult interactions, and building personal resilience. Everyone leaves with a shared understanding and a shared commitment to looking out for each other.

It costs £95 plus VAT per person, the certificate is valid for three years, and groups can be up to 16.

Mental Health First Aid in the Workplace (2 Day)

This is the more in-depth course for managers, supervisors, and designated mental health first aiders. It is a Level 3 qualification that covers how to spot early warning signs, how to conduct structured supportive conversations, how to assess risk, and how to signpost to professional services.

For a Sandbach pub, shop, salon, or cafe, having at least one person trained at this level means there is always someone the team can turn to. Someone who knows how to listen, how to respond, and how to connect a colleague with the right help.

It costs £220 plus VAT per person, and the certificate is valid for three years.

Making it work for customer-facing businesses
