If you're not sure how many first aiders your business needs, or which course is right, we've added a free first aid needs calculator to our website that can help. It's provided by Qualsafe Awards, our awarding body. PCT Services is a Qualsafe registered centre.
In over 34 years of nursing and teaching, the question employers ask me most is how many first aiders they actually need. The honest answer is that it depends on your workplace, your team and the risks involved. That's not much help when you're trying to plan training or set a budget, so we wanted to give people a quick, reliable starting point.
What the calculator does
The calculator asks a few quick questions about your workplace, such as how many people you employ, the kind of work you do and how your shifts are set up. It then gives you a printable report showing how many first aiders you need and the level of training they should have, whether that's an appointed person, Emergency First Aid at Work (EFAW) or First Aid at Work (FAW). It only takes a few minutes.

How many first aiders do I need? Free first aid needs calculator
A free first aid needs calculator to work out how many first aiders your workplace needs, with plain English HSE guidance from our nurse trainer.
Why we added it
Every employer has a legal duty to provide adequate first aid, however small the business. Getting it right protects your staff, and it's far better to have the right cover in place before something happens than after.
The calculator follows HSE guidance, but it can't see your workplace. Please treat the result as a guide and use it alongside your own first aid needs assessment. Remember to plan for shifts, holidays and sickness too, so there's always someone on site who can help.
What to do with your result
Once you know what you need, we can help you book the right course, either at our Northwich hub or on-site at your workplace on a date that suits your team. If you'd like to talk your result through, just give us a call.
