Northwich has a long history with the chemical industry. From the days of salt mining and the alkali works right through to the modern operations at Tata Chemicals, Winnington and Lostock, this town has always been a place where people work with hazardous materials. And if you are running or managing a site in the chemical or manufacturing sector here, you already know that the risks your teams face every day are not the same as someone working in an office.
We are PCT Services, and our training hub is at First Floor, 2 Queen Street right here in Northwich. We deliver accredited first aid training to all sorts of businesses across Cheshire, and we have a lot of experience working with the industrial and manufacturing sector. We understand the specific challenges these workplaces face and we tailor our training to match.
Why standard first aid training is not enough for high risk sites
The Health and Safety Executive classifies chemical processing, manufacturing, and heavy industry as higher risk work environments. That means a basic one day Emergency First Aid at Work course, while still valuable, is unlikely to meet your needs on its own.
For sites dealing with chemical burns, toxic exposure, heavy machinery injuries, or the risk of serious trauma, the full three day First Aid at Work course is almost always the right choice. This gives your first aiders a much broader skill set and prepares them for the kinds of emergencies that are more likely in an industrial setting.

First Aid at Work (FAW)
This 3 day Qualsafe accredited course provides comprehensive training designed to equip employees with essential first aid skills tailored for high risk working environments, ensuring employer compliance with the Health and Safety (First Aid) Regulations 1981. Your trainer is a Registered Nurse with many years of clinical experience within Emergency Departments.

What makes industrial first aid different?
Your first aiders may need to deal with chemical splashes to the eyes or skin, inhalation of fumes or gases, crush injuries from machinery, severe burns from heat or chemicals, electric shock, or falls from height. These are all situations where fast, confident first aid response can genuinely be the difference between a full recovery and a much worse outcome.
That is why we do not just deliver generic first aid training. When we come to your site, we talk to you about the specific hazards your people are exposed to. We build scenarios into the training that reflect real situations your first aiders might actually face. If your site handles corrosive chemicals, we make sure your team knows exactly how to manage a chemical burn. If you have confined space work happening, we cover the specific considerations that come with that.
How many first aiders do you actually need?
The HSE recommends that higher risk workplaces with 5 to 50 employees should have at least one first aider who holds the full three day First Aid at Work certificate. For sites with more than 50 people, you need one first aider for every 50 employees as a minimum. You also need to think about shift patterns and building coverage.
Training on your site or at our Northwich hub
We can come to your site and deliver the training in your own environment, which means less disruption, no travel time for your staff, and training that is grounded in the place where your team actually works. We also run scheduled courses at our training centre at First Floor, 2 Queen Street in Northwich.
