If you run a nursery or childcare setting in Northwich, you will know that first aid training is not optional. It is a legal requirement under the Early Years Foundation Stage (EYFS) framework, and it is something Ofsted checks during inspections.

We are PCT Services, based at our training hub on First Floor, 2 Queen Street in Northwich, and we deliver accredited paediatric first aid training to nurseries, pre-schools, and childminders across Cheshire.

What does the EYFS actually require?

At least one person who has a current and full paediatric first aid certificate must be on the premises and available at all times when children are present. For childminders, this means you personally must hold the certificate. All newly qualified entrants to the early years workforce who have completed a level 2 or level 3 qualification on or after 30 June 2016 must also hold a full paediatric first aid certificate within three months of starting work.

Which paediatric first aid course do you need?

For nurseries and childcare settings that need to meet the full EYFS requirement, the course you need is the Paediatric First Aid (2 Day) course. This is a Qualsafe Awards Level 3 qualification. We deliver it as a blended course with one day of e-learning and one day of practical classroom training. The certificate is valid for three years and is recognised by Ofsted.

We also offer the Emergency Paediatric First Aid course, which is a one day course covering the core life saving skills. This is a great course, but it does not meet the full EYFS requirement on its own.

What does the training cover?

The course covers how to deal with an unresponsive infant and child, paediatric CPR, choking in babies and young children, bleeding and wound care, burns and scalds, febrile convulsions, allergic reactions and anaphylaxis, meningitis recognition, head injuries, managing asthma attacks, and the record keeping and reporting requirements that apply to childcare settings.

Training at your nursery or at our Northwich centre

We can deliver paediatric first aid training directly at your nursery, which is ideal because your team does not have to travel and we can work around your operating hours. We also run scheduled courses at our training centre at First Floor, 2 Queen Street in Northwich.

If you run a nursery, pre-school, or childminding business in Northwich and you need paediatric first aid training for your team, check the upcoming dates or give us a call on 07958 915146.
