Baby and Toddler First Aid in Alderley Edge: A Gift That Could Save a Life

A three-hour, £42 Baby and Toddler First Aid course for Alderley Edge parents, grandparents and as a gift for new families.

14 April 2026

When someone you love is expecting a baby, the gift list writes itself. Tiny clothes. Soft toys. A beautiful blanket. Something personalised with the baby's name. These are lovely, thoughtful presents, and every new parent appreciates them. But there is one gift that most people never think to give, and it might be the most valuable thing an expectant or new parent could receive.

A place on our Baby and Toddler First Aid course.

Three hours of training that teaches them exactly what to do if their baby chokes, stops breathing, has a burn, or has a febrile convulsion. Not a formal qualification. Not something they need for work. Just the essential, life-saving knowledge that every parent should have but most never learn.

We are PCT Services, and we run this course at our training centre at First Floor, 2 Queen Street in Northwich, about a 25 minute drive from Alderley Edge. At £42 per person, it costs less than most baby gifts on the high street, and it could be worth more than all of them put together.

Why this makes the perfect gift

Most new parents are given things. Wonderful, beautiful, practical things. But very few people give them skills. And the skill of knowing how to save your baby's life is something that no amount of muslin cloths or sleep suits can replace.

The reason most parents do not book this course for themselves is not that they do not want to. It is that they do not get around to it. There is always something more urgent. The nursery needs decorating. The car seat needs fitting. The hospital bag needs packing. First aid training gets added to the mental to-do list and then quietly drops off the bottom.

When you book it for them, you remove that barrier. You give them something they would never have bought for themselves but will be incredibly grateful for. And every parent we have ever trained has said the same thing afterwards. They wish they had done it sooner.

What the course covers

The course focuses on the emergencies that are most common and most dangerous for babies and young children. Choking, which is the one every parent fears. Infant and child CPR, which is the skill you hope you will never need but absolutely must have. Burns and scalds, which are frighteningly common in homes with little ones. Febrile convulsions, which look terrifying but are manageable when you know what is happening. Allergic reactions. Signs of meningitis. Bleeding and wound care. Head injuries.

Everything is practical and hands on. Your friend, your sister, your daughter, your son in law, whoever you are booking it for, will actually practise these skills on infant manikins during the course. They will leave with the muscle memory and the confidence to act if something goes wrong.

How to give it

You have a few options. You can book a place on one of our scheduled courses and give the details to the new parent along with a card explaining what the gift is. You can buy two places so both parents can attend together, which is what we recommend because it means both of them have the skills. Or you can give a gift voucher and let them choose the date that works best for them.

If you want to go one step further, you could book places for the grandparents too. Grandparents who look after grandchildren benefit hugely from this course, especially if it has been decades since they had babies of their own. The techniques have changed, the advice has evolved, and having a refresher gives them real confidence.

For a group of friends who are all expecting around the same time, booking a group session is a brilliant option. You learn together in a relaxed, supportive environment, and it becomes a shared experience rather than just a training course.

The details

The course lasts three hours and costs £42 per person. You receive a certificate valid for one year. Groups are small at a maximum of 12, so there is plenty of time for questions and hands on practice. No previous first aid experience is needed.

We run scheduled courses throughout the year at our training centre at First Floor, 2 Queen Street in Northwich. Check the live dates on our Baby and Toddler First Aid page. If you have a group and would prefer us to come to a venue nearer Alderley Edge, we can arrange that too.

Not a professional qualification

Just to be clear, this course is designed for parents, grandparents, and family carers. It is not a professional paediatric first aid qualification. If the person you are buying for is a nanny, childminder, or nursery worker who needs an accredited qualification for work, check our Paediatric First Aid page or Emergency Paediatric First Aid page instead.

Give the gift that matters

The next time someone you know is expecting a baby, skip the department store and give them something that could genuinely save their child's life. Book them a place on our Baby and Toddler First Aid course. It is £42, it is three hours, and it is a gift they will never forget.
