Ellesmere Port has a substantial healthcare presence. GP surgeries, dental practices, care homes, community health services, and the Ellesmere Port Hospital all serve a large local population. The healthcare professionals working across these settings share a common requirement: they must be able to respond effectively when a patient's condition deteriorates to the point of cardiac arrest or respiratory failure.

Life support training is the foundation of that response. Whether you are a GP, a practice nurse, a dental nurse, a care home assistant, or a hospital support worker, the quality of the life support you provide in the first minutes of an emergency directly determines the outcome. High-quality CPR started immediately doubles or triples the chance of survival from cardiac arrest. Delayed or poor-quality CPR dramatically reduces it.

We are PCT Services, and we deliver Resuscitation Council UK accredited life support training from our training centre at First Floor, 2 Queen Street in Northwich, about a 25 minute drive from Ellesmere Port. We also deliver on-site training at healthcare settings across the area.

Basic Life Support for all healthcare staff

Our BLS course follows the latest Resuscitation Council UK guidelines and covers the complete chain of survival. Recognition of cardiac arrest. High-quality chest compressions practised on manikins with real-time feedback. Rescue breathing and bag-valve-mask ventilation. AED use. Choking management.

The course lasts two hours and is designed as an annual refresher. Every member of your healthcare team should complete it, regardless of their clinical role. Receptionists, healthcare assistants, practice managers, clinical staff, and support workers all need BLS skills because a cardiac arrest can happen in any part of your building at any time, and the person closest to the patient is the person who must act.

For GP surgeries in Ellesmere Port, BLS is a CQC requirement. For dental practices, the GDC mandates it. For care homes, it is expected as part of clinical governance. Annual refreshers are the standard, and the CQC will ask to see evidence that training is current.

Enhanced Immediate Life Support for clinical staff

eILS goes beyond basic CPR for the clinical staff who may need to manage a deteriorating patient at a higher level. The course covers airway management using oropharyngeal and nasopharyngeal adjuncts, bag-valve-mask ventilation, the ABCDE assessment framework for the acutely unwell patient, and the recognition and initial management of peri-arrest arrhythmias.

eILS costs £180 per person and combines e-learning with a full day of practical, simulation-based training. It is Resuscitation Council UK accredited.

For GPs and practice nurses in Ellesmere Port who may need to manage a patient who is deteriorating in the surgery, eILS provides the structured approach and advanced skills that bridge the gap between basic CPR and the arrival of the ambulance. For senior nurses in care homes who oversee clinical care for elderly residents with complex medical needs, eILS gives them the capability to assess and intervene earlier and more effectively.

For dental teams, where sedation carries a small but real risk of respiratory compromise, the airway management skills covered in eILS are directly relevant to clinical practice.

Layered training for your team

The most effective approach for Ellesmere Port healthcare teams is a layered one.

All staff complete BLS annually. This ensures that no matter who is present, no matter what time of day, someone can start effective resuscitation immediately.

Clinical staff complete eILS. GPs, practice nurses, dentists, senior dental nurses, and senior care home nurses gain the additional skills to manage deterioration and provide a higher level of intervention.

If your team includes professionals who work with children, our ePILS course covers paediatric and neonatal life support at £150 per person. This is relevant for GP surgeries that see paediatric patients and for any healthcare professional whose clinical work includes children.

This layered approach ensures broad competence across the whole team and deeper capability among those most likely to lead a resuscitation.

On-site training for Ellesmere Port healthcare settings

On-site BLS training is the most practical option for healthcare teams. We come to your surgery, practice, or care home, bring all the equipment, and train your staff in batches so that patient care is not disrupted. Two hour sessions can be slotted around clinic schedules, with staff rotating through in groups of up to 12.

On-site training also gives us the opportunity to discuss your specific emergency procedures, AED location, and communication protocols. Practising in the environment where a real emergency would happen makes the training more immediately applicable.

Or attend at our Northwich centre
