If you work with children in Cheshire, whether you run a nursery in Crewe, a primary school in Chester, a childminding business in Knutsford, or an after school club in Warrington, paediatric first aid training is not optional. It is a legal requirement, and getting it right means your staff are genuinely prepared to handle the emergencies that can happen when you are responsible for other people's children.
The requirements can feel confusing. Different settings have different rules. EYFS settings need specific qualifications. Schools follow DfE guidance. Childminders have their own Ofsted requirements. And the courses themselves come in different lengths and levels. So let us clear it all up.
We are PCT Services, and we deliver accredited paediatric first aid training from our training centre at First Floor, 2 Queen Street in Northwich, right in the centre of Cheshire. We work with nurseries, schools, childminders, and children's settings across the county, from Wilmslow and Alderley Edge in the east to Ellesmere Port and Runcorn in the west, and from Warrington and Lymm in the north to Nantwich and Sandbach in the south.
The courses and who they are for
We offer three paediatric first aid courses, and the right one depends on your setting and your role.
Paediatric First Aid (2 Day)
This is the most comprehensive option and the one that meets the full EYFS requirements. It combines one day of e-learning with one day of practical classroom training and leads to a Qualsafe Awards accredited qualification. This is the course that Ofsted inspectors look for in nurseries and early years settings. It covers the full range of paediatric emergencies including choking, CPR, anaphylaxis, febrile convulsions, meningitis, head injuries, burns, bleeding, and more.
It costs £95 plus VAT per person, the certificate is valid for three years, and groups can be up to 12. This course is suitable for nursery managers, deputy managers, room leaders, early years practitioners, and anyone who needs a full paediatric first aid qualification for EYFS compliance.

Paediatric First Aid (2 Day) *OFSTED & EYFS*
This Qualsafe Level 3 Award in Paediatric First Aid (RQF) is a regulated and nationally recognised qualification which is OFSTED and EYFS compliant. Your trainer is a Registered Nurse with many years of clinical experience within Emergency Departments who trains Advanced Paediatric Life Support to medical and nursing staff in acute hospital environments.

Emergency Paediatric First Aid
This is a one day, seven hour course that covers the core paediatric emergencies. It is suitable for staff who need paediatric first aid skills but are not in an EYFS role that requires the full two day qualification. This works well for childminders, nannies, au pairs, youth group leaders, sports coaches, and anyone who works with children in a non-EYFS setting.
It costs £75 plus VAT per person, the certificate is valid for three years, and groups can be up to 12.

Emergency Paediatric First Aid
The Qualsafe Level 3 Award in Emergency Paediatric First Aid (RQF) is a regulated and nationally recognised qualification. Your trainer is a Registered Nurse with many years of clinical experience within Emergency Departments who trains Advanced Paediatric Life Support to medical and nursing staff in acute hospital environments.
Combined Emergency First Aid at Work and Paediatric First Aid
This course covers both adult workplace first aid and paediatric first aid in a single package, with pre-course e-learning and one day of classroom training. It gives your staff dual certification, which is particularly practical for schools and settings where staff need to be able to respond to emergencies involving both children and adults.
It starts from £95 plus VAT per person, the certificate is valid for three years, and groups can be up to 12. This is popular with primary schools, after school clubs, and nurseries that want to cover all their bases with one course.

Combined EFAW & Paediatric First Aid
This combined Qualsafe Level 3 Award in Emergency First Aid at Work (RQF) and Emergency Paediatric First Aid (RQF) is a regulated and nationally recognised qualification and is HSE, OFSTED and EYFS compliant. Your trainer is a Registered Nurse with years of experience in Emergency Departments who trains Advanced Life and Advanced Paediatric Support to medical and nursing staff in acute hospital environments.
EYFS requirements for Cheshire nurseries
If you run a nursery or any EYFS registered setting in Cheshire, you must have at least one person on the premises at all times who holds a full paediatric first aid qualification. For nurseries with multiple rooms or large numbers of children, you will likely need more than one trained person to ensure coverage throughout the building and during different shifts.
Ofsted inspectors will check that your paediatric first aid provision is compliant. They will look at who holds the qualification, when it was obtained, and when it expires. Certificates are valid for three years, so you need a rolling training plan to make sure you are never caught out by an expiring certificate.
We work with nurseries across Cheshire, from small village nurseries in Frodsham, Middlewich, and Holmes Chapel to larger settings in Warrington, Chester, Crewe, and Macclesfield. We can help you set up a training schedule that keeps your team compliant year round.
Schools and DfE guidance
The DfE requires all schools to have a first aid policy, carry out a first aid needs assessment, and have trained first aiders on site. For primary schools and any school with early years provision, at least one person should hold a paediatric first aid qualification.
The combined course is particularly useful for schools because it gives staff both adult and paediatric qualifications. This means your teaching assistants, lunchtime supervisors, and office staff are covered for emergencies involving both pupils and adult colleagues, which is practical and cost effective.
We work with primary and secondary schools across Cheshire and can deliver training on site during inset days or school holidays, or your staff can attend our scheduled courses at the Northwich centre.
Childminder requirements
If you are a registered childminder in Cheshire, you need a current paediatric first aid qualification. Ofsted requires this as part of your registration, and your certificate must be valid at all times. The Emergency Paediatric First Aid course meets this requirement and can be completed in a single day.
We train childminders from across the county, from Congleton and Sandbach to Altrincham and Lymm. Many book onto our scheduled courses at the Northwich centre, which is easy to get to from anywhere in Cheshire.
