If you run a nursery, pre-school, or primary school in Liverpool, paediatric first aid is not optional. It is written into the EYFS statutory framework, it is checked at every Ofsted inspection, and it is one of the things that, when it matters, really matters. A choking incident in the toddler room, an anaphylactic reaction at lunchtime, a febrile convulsion during a nap, a serious head bump in the playground — these are the moments your team needs to be ready for.
We are PCT Services, and we deliver Qualsafe Awards accredited paediatric first aid training to nurseries, pre-schools, childminders, and schools across Liverpool and Merseyside. We are an approved training partner of Liverpool City Council, and we also deliver healthcare training for Wirral University Teaching Hospital NHS and NHS Mersey Care, which means our paediatric content reflects up to date clinical standards, not just generic first aid material. Our training centre is at First Floor, 2 Queen Street in Northwich, and we travel out to Liverpool settings regularly for on site delivery.
What the EYFS actually requires
Under the EYFS statutory framework, all early years providers must ensure at least one person with a current full paediatric first aid certificate is on the premises, and accompanying children on outings, at all times. For newly qualified Level 2 and Level 3 practitioners counting in ratios, they must also hold a current paediatric first aid certificate.
The qualification required is a full two day (12 hour) Paediatric First Aid certificate, accredited by an approved awarding body. Ours is accredited through Qualsafe Awards, one of the most widely recognised in the sector. Certificates are valid for three years.
Ofsted inspectors routinely ask for paediatric first aid certificates during inspections. If yours have lapsed, or if your coverage is thin because someone has left, it becomes a real risk to your rating.
The two main options
Combined Emergency First Aid at Work and Paediatric First Aid
For schools and nurseries where some staff need both workplace first aid and paediatric cover, our Combined course is often the most efficient route. It covers everything required under the EYFS paediatric framework and also provides workplace first aid competence for staff dealing with adult colleagues and visitors. From £95 + VAT, one day with pre-course e-learning, accredited by Qualsafe, three year certificate.
This is a popular choice for Liverpool primary schools, after school clubs, and nurseries that want one qualification that does both jobs.

Combined EFAW & Paediatric First Aid
This combined Qualsafe Level 3 Award in Emergency First Aid at Work (RQF) and Emergency Paediatric First Aid (RQF) is a regulated and nationally recognised qualification and is HSE, OFSTED and EYFS compliant. Your trainer is a Registered Nurse with years of experience in Emergency Departments who trains Advanced Life and Advanced Paediatric Support to medical and nursing staff in acute hospital environments.
Paediatric First Aid (2 Day)
This is the full Ofsted compliant paediatric first aid course. One day of pre-course e-learning, followed by one full day in the classroom. £95 + VAT, Qualsafe Awards accredited, certificate valid for three years, maximum group size of 12.
It is specifically designed for early years practitioners and nursery managers, and covers CPR on infants and children, choking, bleeding, shock, head injuries, burns and scalds, febrile convulsions, asthma attacks, anaphylaxis, meningitis recognition, and the management of an unresponsive child.

Paediatric First Aid (2 Day) *OFSTED & EYFS*
This Qualsafe Level 3 Award in Paediatric First Aid (RQF) is a regulated and nationally recognised qualification which is OFSTED and EYFS compliant. Your trainer is a Registered Nurse with many years of clinical experience within Emergency Departments who trains Advanced Paediatric Life Support to medical and nursing staff in acute hospital environments.

Tailored to Liverpool settings
Liverpool has a huge variety of early years and education settings. There are the big community nurseries in areas like Allerton and West Derby, the small independent settings in the Georgian Quarter and Sefton Park area, primary schools across every neighbourhood, after school clubs, holiday clubs in school holidays, and a lot of home based childminders working all over the city.
We tailor delivery to each setting. For a school with 30 staff to train, we will come on site and run back to back courses on INSET days or during holidays to minimise disruption. For a small nursery with four staff, we can fit you into a scheduled course at our Northwich centre, or combine several small settings into one shared on site delivery. For childminders, scheduled courses at our centre are usually the most practical option.
Because we train healthcare staff at NHS Mersey Care and Wirral University Teaching Hospital NHS, our paediatric content draws on real clinical knowledge, not just textbook scenarios. When we talk about recognising meningitis signs or managing anaphylaxis, it is grounded in how these things actually present.
What Ofsted looks for
When Ofsted visit, they will ask for your first aid certificates and check them against the staff on the premises. They will want to see that someone with a current paediatric certificate is always present, including at the start and end of the day, during outings, and when you are running at your minimum staffing levels.
A common issue we see is settings where one or two people hold the certificate, and when one of them is off sick or on leave, coverage gets tight. We usually recommend training more people than you think you strictly need. It is cheaper than the alternative, and it gives you genuine resilience.
On site in Liverpool or at our Northwich centre
On site delivery is often easiest for Liverpool nurseries and schools. We come to you, bring all the equipment, and fit around your staff patterns, whether that is evening sessions, weekends, or INSET days. No one loses a full day of cover.
Alternatively, individuals can book onto our scheduled courses at First Floor, 2 Queen Street in Northwich. It is a straightforward 45 minute drive down the M56 from Liverpool city centre, and we have live dates available to book directly. This is the simplest option for childminders or for a single new starter who needs a certificate quickly.
