Matthew Boken

I am a registered ODP with a BSc (Hons) in operating department practice. I have years of experience working in paediatric, adult and obstetric acute settings. I currently work within a specialist paediatric setting as a resuscitation practitioner, providing care to critically ill children, and proving expert advice as a subject matter expert in resuscitation science.

I also work clinically within the operating theatre environment as an anaesthetic practitioner providing care to patients across all age ranges undergoing surgery, general anaesthesia and during the recovery phase of their perioperative care.

Alongside my clinical role, I am passionate about education and supporting healthcare professionals to develop the knowledge, skills and confidence needed to care for seriously ill children and adults. I deliver paediatric healthcare education across the region and I am an instructor in Advanced Paediatric Life Support (APLS), Paediatric Immediate Life Support (PILS), Advanced Life Support (ALS) and Immediate Life Support (iLS). I also teach on the Generic Instructor Course, supporting doctors, nurses, paramedics and allied healthcare professionals in gaining instructor status to teach on accredited Advanced Life Support courses facilitated by the Resuscitation Council (UK) and the Advanced Life Support Group.

My clinical background across a broad range of settings has given me a range of experience in emergency patient care. I enjoy bringing real-life clinical experience into my teaching. I am particularly passionate about supporting healthcare professionals to feel confident in recognising and managing the deteriorating patient

I am HCPC registered, and I am committed to providing friendly, accessible and welcoming training that is suitable for all.
